Press check sneak peek
Published 2009 October 17 announcement , new work , print design Leave a CommentTumblr has totally changed my relationship to cataloguing my thoughts on the web.
It’s fun to use (so it doesn’t feel like one more thing I can’t keep up with) and I don’t obsess over formatting different kinds of posts as Tumblr makes some of those decisions for me. I’m sure there tech purists that want infinite amount of control.
To me though, what has made the internet revolution over the last decade is easy to use broadcast tools built on web standards. Tumblr may be too limited for some, but that’s it’s genius. That’s what makes Twitter and Facebook so successful as well. Limits.
After using Tumblr to do play around with a visual shopping shopping list of sorts, called I want candy, I started a group blog of imagery and inspiration with my friend David, called Trumpery. And then decided that my project Inaudible Nonsense needed to come out of its dormant period.
It’s now on Tumblr as well. Please do follow along.

Social media rodeo
Published 2008 August 14 announcement , connections , social media Leave a CommentI had a perhaps frightening realization that I hit some tipping point for social media where the Flock browser suddenly makes sense as a management tool. So please note to right, the spectrum of ways to connect with me in the aptly named “Connect” list. You’ll find your standard group of Twitters and Flickrs and LinkedIns as well the Museum 3.0 Ning network. Join me in the, um, conversation.
Reading the market: ‘Guerrilla’ wayshowing project
Published 2008 August 3 announcement , portfolio , wayshowing Leave a CommentRichard, of Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space, writes up our ‘guerrilla’ wayshowing project for the Florida Market. He and I developed a combined market directory and historical information sign based on the DiscoverDC trail system while extending that model into something more comprehensive and integrated. His write-up is strong (as always) so read the whole post. I’d like to highlight one paragraph which was our starting point for the project, essentially, our creative brief:
One of the big problems for the Florida Market District is what Kevin Lynch called legibility. People need an introduction in order to understand what appears to be a chaotic place, a place that was described by a tour goer once as “the anti-Whole Foods.”
Images of the front and back (also at Richard’s site), below the jump.
